Prof.DR.Mariam Darus SH, Professor of Civil Law is regarded as the foremost Indonesia Legal Scholars in Civil and Contract Law studies in Indonesia.
Mariam Darus has a command of Dutch and English language. She has written numbers of books and articles also speaker at various law seminars overseas and across the country. She has also acquired further scholastic knowledge overseas in Recht Faculteit, Leiden University, Netherland (1975/76), Athens, Ohio University (1978), USA, American International Law Institute, Dallas (1981), Texas, USA, Mississippi University and Kentucky University, Lexington (1982), USA and Hiroshima University (1984), Japan.
Mariam Darus extensively serves as an eminent lecturer of Postgraduate Program in numbers Faculty of Laws at several leading universities i.e University of Indonesia, Jakarta, University of Padjadjaran, Bandung, University of North Sumatra, Medan, YARSI University, Jakarta, Indonesian Army School of Law, Jakarta and Indonesian Police School of Law, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Alongside with her academic career Mariam Darus has engaged in law practice she founded in 1973. Over the years the firm has broadened its scope of activities and has been reorganized before taking its present structure as MARIAM DARUS & PARTNERS to reflect legal and economic global reform since 2008.
She is a certified litigator and capital market legal consultant. Her opinions have been widely sought by different institutions both public and private, as well as the courts in Indonesia and abroad, such as the Bre-X Case at the Provincial Court of Calgary in Canada, Kempinsky Hotel Case at the Arbitration Court of Singapore, Beckett vs Deutsche Bank, High Court of Singapore (19…), Newmont Nusa Tenggara (2009), Indonesian State Owned Company Arbitration Case, Geneva (2003) to name a few. She has served the Indonesian government as resource person and consultant in many areas of law development and legislative drafting.
Her current professional assignments include the following: Head of Legal Section at Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association, Head Indonesian National Arbitration Body, BANI, Medan, North Sumatera, Registered Arbitrator in Indonesian National Arbitration Body, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Mariam Darus holds Master of Laws from Faculty of Law, University of Gajahmada, Jogyakarta and Doctorate of Law degrees from the University of North Sumatera.
